“A death sentence” for the president of the metropolis of Bordeaux

A few hours after the thunderclap and the decision of the DNCG which confirmed the relegation to the National of the Girondins de Bordeaux, the PS president of the metropolis of Bordeaux reacts on franceinfo. “It’s a disaster for the club, it’s a disaster for the fans, but it’s also a disaster for the whole territory.” explains Alain Anziani, also mayor of Mérignac. For him, this decision is “a death sentence for the club”.

“The disappearance of a sports monument”

Alain Anziani don’t hide your anger following the decision of the DNCG. “We are going towards liquidation” he confirms. He estimates that “it is the disappearance of a monument of sport, of a part of the sporting heritage” and ensures that the consequences will be serious, particularly for employees who risk being dismissed, “between 200 and 300” people are affected.

If no appeal can succeed, the club would indeed be forced to file for bankruptcy with the Commercial Court. The club, professional since 1937, will once again become an amateur structureand will have to separate from all its employees. “We are going to have the disappearance of the training center and the disappearance of the women’s section. For us, it is also a lot of bitterness, a lot of sadness, and also for the supporters, a lot of anger”.

Appeals still possible

You have to do it very quickly

The president of the Metropolis still wants to believe it. He calls on the Minister of Sports to seize the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF). Indeed, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra has the power to convene this Committee, “a conciliation body”. “We have to do it very quickly” Judge Alain Anziani. “It must be done before the calendars are obviously launched and the competitions begin. It must be brought together very quickly so that the CNOSF can find a solution”. This Tuesday, the club was already discussing probable appeals before the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF), even if reversing the decision seems unlikely.

“We don’t give up, we need this professional club”affirms the president of the Bordeaux metropolis who assures that after the CNOSF, “there is the possibility of seizing the administrative court”. This is what the Girondins are also considering: taking the matter to “civil” justice, in this case the administrative court in summary proceedings, hoping for a favorable decision which would allow them to be ready for the kick-off of the Ligue 2 championship. , July 30.

A club “in the dark”

It’s a bad story that has been tied for a few years.

Since the announcement of the DNCG, it is misunderstanding. “The commercial court had already ruled and had validated all the documents which were rejected by the DNCG. It is a misunderstanding vis-à-vis this body” says Alain Anziani. “Since the departure of M6 (the group sold the club to an American investment fund in 2018, editor’s note), we have the impression that we are in the dark, that we are in improvisation and that, obviously, Gérard Lopez has taken his part”. The club president “was the only one to put 10 million on the table last year and I don’t forget”. “M6 looked at the 100 million that this represented in its fund, but there was no concern for the Aquitaine and Girondin territory. So M6 also has its share of responsibility beyond the players on the ground, of course. In fact, it’s a bad story that has been tied for a few years” concludes the mayor of Mérignac.
