Syria: 35 children and 16 mothers repatriated to France

126 people had already been repatriated from Syria, but on Tuesday July 5, France announced that 35 additional children and 16 mothers would also return to France. This is the first time that the mothers have returned with the children, although they will be brought to justice, as eight are under arrest warrants and the other eight have been taken into custody. Children’s Aid is responsible for looking after minors.

It was under the weight of international pressure that France took the decision to repatriate these families. This is explained by the family lawyer, Me Vincent Brengarth : “You have a number of European countries (…) which ordered the repatriation of these families and therefore France found itself completely isolated.” For people who still have family members in Syria, the hope reborn to see other repatriations taking place. 200 French children and women are still on Syrian soil.
