Canadian airlines and airports were among the hardest hit in the world by delays over the July long weekend, according to industry firm FlightAware.
Air Canada ranked first for delays on Saturday and Sunday. More than 700 of its flights were affected in total, or about two-thirds of its flights, according to the tracking service.
Carrier WestJet and its low-cost subsidiary, Swoop, ranked third and fourth for delays on Saturday.
Toronto’s Pearson Airport claimed second place on Sunday, after China’s Guangzhou Airport, while Montreal ranked sixth. The two Canadian airports recorded a higher proportion of late departures than the main airports of London and Amsterdam.
Air Canada announced last week that it would cut more than 15% of its summer schedule, or nearly 10,000 flights in July and August, as the country’s airline network sags under an overwhelming upsurge in travel.
The Canada Day long weekend, which marks the start of the peak travel season, saw scenes of long lines and baggage mazes flood social media, as airports around the world were struggling with overwhelmed terminals after two years of pent-up demand.
