Several sectors, several companies are facing recruitment difficulties in France and especially here in the Landes. This is the case for the construction, catering and agri-food sectors. Yet the unemployment rate has rarely been so low. In reality, the job market is very dynamic, and it is becoming extremely competitive for businesses.
At Delpeyrat, permanent and seasonal positions to take
Among the companies in difficulty to recruit there is for example the food company Delpeyrat. After the health crisis and two years of avian crisis, it is struggling to recruit explains Stéphanie Pradal, its director of human resources. These difficulties concern both “permanent positions, especially in maintenance, but also positions for our season as team leader, production operator in particular”.
According to Stéphanie Pradal, the health crisis and the two years of avian crisis have led the company to move away, losing contact with some people who worked regularly, others preferred to change trades. But his company also faces a hyper-dynamic job market.
Unemployment at 7.1% in the Landes
“The unemployment rate in the Landes is 7.1%, and it is even only 5.8% in the Mont-de-Marsan basin“explains Isabelle Jullian Averous, delegate territorial director of Pole Emploi in the Landes. There is therefore rarely, if ever, have there been so few job seekers in the departement.
+76% more job offers between May 2019 and May 2022
According to her, half of these are people looking for part-time work, the other half of people whose skills do not coincide with the research of companies. At the same time, the offers have exploded: “If I look at the month of May 2022 and compare it to May 2019, since 2020-2021 are atypical years, I have +76% job offers registered with Pôle Emploi in the Landes comparing May 2022 and May 2019” underlines Isabelle Jullian Averous.
Competition between companies to recruit
The consequence is strong competition between sectors and between companies analyzes the deputy territorial director of Pole Emploi “if I am in the agri-food sector or in the agricultural sector, or in the construction sector, and if I have comparable levels of qualifications, I will find myself in competition in my recruitment because the employee has a choice”.
This pushes us to implement everything on the incentive, perhaps a little more on the image of our professions.
This must lead, on the one hand, to training job seekers or setting up systems for them to discover new companies, and on the other hand, that companies value themselves or improve their offers. So on the side of Delpeyrat reflections are in progress or are to come: “This pushes us to implement everything effectively on the incentive, perhaps a little more on the image of our professions and to discover the company with all that it presents. We are not on work weekends, we also have schedules that are quite supervised and basket bonuses that exist. We need to communicate more about that” says Stéphanie Pascal, whose company already has around thirty positions to fill this summer.
