A ticket at 4 euros for all sessions. Let’s go for the 37th edition of the Film Festival, which will continue until Wednesday July 6th. Professionals are counting on this event to attract spectators back to dark rooms.
A handful of French actors come together to proclaim loud and clear their love of the big screen. Behind this trailer, one objective: to make the public want to return to theaters, with the place at 4 euros as an incentive. Over the first six months of the year, attendance fell by 30% compared to 2019, the last normal year before Covid-19. Other bad news: if American blockbusters, like Top Gunmore or less hold their rank, French films look rather gray.
Only two French films exceeded two million admissions in 2022. Necessarily worried, professionals nevertheless want to remain optimistic. “The Cannes Film Festival brought us nuggets, which we will be able to offer throughout the coming year“, says Fabien Houi, director of the Le Brady cinema in Paris. In the meantime, the ball is in the court of the spectators. Their return to theaters is awaited by the entire French cinema industry.
