According to information provided by the Sûreté du Québec, patrol officers at the MRC Drummond station received a call around 8:45 p.m. Saturday concerning a hit-and-run on Saint-Joseph Boulevard, near the intersection of rue Saint Alphonse.

According to SQ spokesman Nicolas Scholtus, “a driver would have crossed the intersection on Saint-Joseph Boulevard without worrying about the red light”.

He then crashed into another vehicle that was in the intersection. This second car was then thrown at a 73-year-old pedestrian.

The victim reportedly lost consciousness at the scene before being rushed to a hospital. The man would have regained consciousness once in the hospital, but his state of health remains worrying and he had to be transferred to a hospital center in Trois-Rivières.

The driver of the crashed vehicle, a 53-year-old woman, also had to be taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries in her case.

As for the driver at fault, he fled the scene of the accident and is actively sought by the police.

Part of the road was closed to traffic to allow investigators to analyze the scene.
