The first vacation departures took place on Friday July 1, when France and Europe were affected by the seventh wave of Covid-19.

At Montparnasse station (Paris), Friday July 1st is a busy day, with many holidaymakers equipped with their suitcases. Their faces are rather obscured. “We don’t want to be sick during the holidays, so we wear the mask, that way we are sure”, testifies a traveler. Could there be a tightening of health rules in the face of the resurgence of the Covid-19 epidemic? Some vacationers are wondering. “It doesn’t smell very good”said one of them.

For now, wearing a mask in transport is only strongly recommended. But no doubt, the Covid-19 is back in force, with 91,000 contaminations per day on average, a jump of more than 60% of cases in one week. For infectious disease specialist Benjamin Davido, we must return to a stricter protocol. At the Butte Montmartre in Paris, foreign tourists say they were worried enough about Covid-19 before, and leave the mask aside.
