They are more numerous than in previous years. Between 400 and 500 caravans of travelers arrived yesterday in the Pornic sector in Loire-Atlantique, and in particular in the small town of Corsept, 2,700 inhabitants.
More than 300 caravans have settled illegally at a place called “La prairie”, on private agricultural fields, just behind the Joseph Clavier complex between Corsept and Paimboeuf.
We cannot continue to receive everyone illegally
“We cannot continue to receive everyone illegally, deplores the mayor of Corsept, Hervé Gentes (SE). It becomes a discord, and Travelers take advantage of it.”
Although a site exists to accommodate travellers, they settled illegally on fields owned by farmers. “I don’t know how things will unfold in the next few days, explains the mayor, what is certain is that things are already going badly with the farmers. This is normal, it is a violation of privacy. When they are offered dedicated land, they refuse for various reasons. They prefer illegal parking lots to be able to draw water and electricity, which leaves the door open to a lot of abuse.”
Dedicated areas that are complete or too small
On the side of the gendarmerie, it is indicated that around 500 vehicles from Vendée are now circulating in the Pornic sector this weekend. The Trignac area reserved for Travelers is full, and that of Saint-Brévin-les-Pins is “too small to accommodate so many vehicles”specifies the gendarmerie.
This is not the first time that Travelers have settled on this site. According to Hervé Gentes, 250 caravans had parked in the same place last year at the same time.
The mayor of Corsept filed a complaint. It is supported by the Association of Mayors of Loire-Atlantique and the Association of Rural Mayors and is currently in dialogue with the occupants, hoping that they will leave the premises as soon as possible.
