Some owners choose to share their land by building their house in someone else’s garden. In some villages, they are even encouraged to do so.

This is an uncommon practice, yet more and more owners are thinking about it: build his house in someone else’s garden. To avoid occupying natural spaces and not artificializing the soil, some municipalities are pushing to root this trend. The practical aspect of having low-maintenance gardens is an argument for sharing your land. The idea germinated three years ago and is called the BIMBY which comes from English ‘built in my backyard‘. Not all residents are in favor of this solution in the face of administrative difficulties.

The new climate law prevents a city from having too much concreting so rather than building in fields where there are no houses, this new practice is an ecological solution. We were looking for an apartment but apartments are very expensive (…) but here it comes back to us for less, our house and then we keep our neighbors“says a woman. The latter sold her house to build another just opposite, at the bottom of her garden.
