During its summit in Madrid, NATO decided on Wednesday June 29 to invite Sweden and Finland to join its ranks. A decision that does not please Russia.

NATO will see two new members join its coalition with Finland and Sweden. It was during the summit of the organization in Madrid that the integration of the two Scandinavian countries, which were nevertheless deemed neutral, was decided. This is a historic day for Sweden and the Swedish people.”said the First Swedish minister. The fact that Finland, which borders Russia, is joining the organization is a snub for the Russian president.

For the Baltic countries, this is an additional guarantee of security since, apart from Russia, all the countries which have access to the Baltic Sea will now be part of the organisation. If NATO was able to validate the presence of two new members, it is thanks to Turkey, which changed its mind. Previously, the country led by President Erdogan refused the release. In return, the two new members have lifted the arms sales embargo in Turkey and they will consider the Kurdish party as a terrorist movement. They also open up the possibility of extraditing prisoners to Turkey.
