The Saint-Avold coal plant, in Moselle, will restart next winter, after it closed last March.
Sunday, June 26, the government announced that the Saint-Avold coal plant (Moselle) would open its doors again. This announcement makes people happy. “It’s a job that was exciting so I will come back if necessary with pleasure. It’s a need of the country so I will respond to this effort”says Thomas About, an old factory frame. It is not the only country relying on coal, as Germany, the Netherlands and Greece also want to increase their coal production or reopen power plants.
France is obliged to find a quick solution since Russia no longer supplies gas or oil to France. The members of the plant are caught off guard by this unexpected reopening, so they will have to replenish stocks to operate the plant. “We currently have the equivalent of a good month of operation, but we will have to find a little coal to spend the other five months”explains Jean-Pierre Damn, the FO union representative.
