An announcement which the Bahrain-Victorious would have done well, four days before the start of the Tour de France. On July 15, the formation then first in the team classification had already been the subject of a search in its hotel in Pau, after the 17th stage of the Tour. A preliminary investigation had been opened by the Marseille prosecutor’s office twelve days earlier, for “acquisition, transportation, possession, import of a prohibited substance or method for use by an athlete without medical justification”.
The Bahrain-Victorious had achieved several performances of choice last year on the Tour. Slovenian Matej Mohoric had won two stages, one of which, the 19th, at the cost of a long solo breakaway. Dylan Teuns won at Grand-Bornand (8th stage), while his teammate Wout Poels wore the polka dot jersey for a long time, finally won by Tadej Pogacar.
Finally, Sonny Colbrelli, although not a born climber, signed a few exploits in the mountains, including a podium in Tignes. European champion and winner of Paris-Roubaix in stride, the Italian suffered a heart attack after the first stage of the Tour of Catalonia in March 2022.
