The United States has reopened its doors to tourists with a health pass. After 20 months of border closures, many French people who were to reach New York were able to take the plunge.
Before the pandemic, New York was the favorite of French tourists, with 800,000 French visitors per year. Since November 8, the official day of the reopening of borders to Europeans, they are back. “It feels like a movie”, confides a young tourist, who came for the first time with relatives. The latter make an obligatory passage on the essential place of Times Square. “It’s too beautiful, you don’t even know where to look”, confides her friend.
For Laurène Hamilton, guide and founder of “Your New York Story”, customer feedback is “a big relief”. Between Ellis Island, the Empire State Building and Broadway, the city has no shortage of iconic places. New York State has launched an economic plan to restart the tourism industry. However, a return to pre-pandemic figures is not expected before at least the end of 2025.
