[Critique] “Sometimes, Forever”, Soccer Mommy

With her new album, Soccer Mommy, American Sophie Allison’s project continues to experiment with the idea of a certain shoe gaze refined and colorful with the commercial pop of the 2000s, the one that was taken by the Hilary Duff and Kelly Clarkson of this world, and with strong emotions. Sometimes, Forever is thus an amalgam of pieces with a strange atmosphere, both tumultuous and gentle, which evoke both the ups and downs experienced and observed by the singer-songwriter. The fiery riffs saturated with don’t ask me and of bones is thus subtly intertwined with deeper and more intimate titles such as Still, Fire in the Driveway and Darkness Forever. We also recognize the touch of producer Daniel Lopatin of Oneohtrix Point Never (who also signs the soundtrack of Uncut Gems by the Safdie brothers) on the almost psychedelics — but everything is relative when it comes to Soccer Mommy as its universe is singular — Feel It All the Time and With U.
