In three weeks, the number of Covid-19 contaminations has tripled in France, going from less than 18,000 positive cases per day at the end of May to around 55,000 currently, according to the latest report from Public Health France this Friday. In this context, the government is not currently considering new restrictions, but those affected by the booster dose are called upon to be vaccinated.
Who is affected by the second booster dose?
The Ministry of Health recalls on its website that people over 60with or without comorbidity, are eligible for the second anti-covid booster dose, in other words a fourth dose of vaccine.
- From three months after the injection of the first booster for people aged 80 and over, residents of nursing homes and USLDs;
- From six months after the first booster injection for people aged 60 to 79.
“The injection of this second booster dose should make it possible to strengthen their protection against severe forms of the disease and deaths, in the current context of strong circulation of the virus”says the Ministry of Health.
The recommended vaccination booster from the age of 12
If the second vaccine booster campaign is aimed at people over 60, scientific authorities recommend a recall for all people aged 12 and over whose immunity given by the vaccine against Covid-19 tends to decrease over the months after obtaining the complete vaccination schedule, in particular against the Delta and Omicron variants.
- As early as 3 months for people aged 18 and over after the last dose of the initial regimen;
- From 6 months after the last injection for minors aged 12 to 17;
- For immunocompromised people, it is recommended to follow the advice of their healthcare professional as to the most suitable vaccination schedule.
What you need to know for people vaccinated with Janssen
People vaccinated with Janssen should receive a second injection starting four weeks after their vaccination, then a booster dose three months after the second dose. People who have had a Covid-19 infection and then a dose of Janssen are eligible for the booster dose as early as four weeks after their injection.
For people who have had the Covid-19 after their injection of Janssen:
- If infection less than 15 days after injection: people receive an additional dose of mRNA vaccine four weeks after infection. They are eligible for the booster vaccine three months after this additional dose;
- If infection more than 15 days after the injection: people do not need to complete their vaccination schedule with an additional dose. They are eligible for the booster three months after infection.
An infection corresponds to an injection
People who contracted Covid-19 after their initial vaccination schedule do not need to do a booster dose. In contrast, for people wishing to leave the national territorythe vaccination booster must be done to have a valid vaccination certificate.
