The seventh wave of Covid-19 is rising. “The circulation of SARS-CoV-2 continues to increase throughout the metropolitan territory, with an increase in new hospitalizations”, notes Public Health France. According to its latest weekly report, all age groups are affected and around 55,000 positive cases per day have been recorded for three weeks.

Increase in critical care admissions for the over 80s

Two thirds of cases in France are linked to new Omicron subvariants, especially BA.5 (41%). At the hospital, hard hit by the pandemic and in structural crisis, the rebound is confirmed but remains moderate for the moment.

An increase in admissions, especially among those aged 80 and over, is observed in critical care after several weeks of reduction and one week of stabilization, according to Santé Publique France.

A quarter of the eligible population received their second booster dose

The government and health authorities want to speed up the second vaccination booster campaign. The Ministry of Health warns of the rate “clearly insufficient” of people who received their fourth dose.

So far, only a quarter of eligible people have received their second booster dose, the government calls on the older ones to receive the injection “as soon as possible”.

The border health pass until March 2023?

Several voices in the medical community, including that of Alain Fischer, in a personal capacity, or of the federation of public hospitals, plead for a return of the mandatory mask in transport.

In the government, we call on “citizen responsibility”, for the moment no new restrictions but the Minister of Health Brigitte Bourguignon, does not exclude “other measures if necessary”.

The French government plans to use the health pass on arrival in France, Corsica and overseas, according to a draft bill aimed at maintaining “a monitoring and health security system” until March 2023.
