From a qualification in extremis to a world medal! Maxime Grousset achieved a feat on Friday June 24, in the 50m freestyle final. The swimmer snatched the bronze medal, behind Briton Benjamin Proud and American Michael Andrew. After pulling out the day before the semi-finals after a play-off against the Brazilian Bruno Fratus, where he beat his personal best, the 23-year-old New Caledonian again improved his mark ( 21″57) on Friday to claim third place.
“It’s the best I could do on 50. This year, I was not good, and suddenly, I rediscovered myself on 50 meters”, declared the swimmer at the end of his race. The Frenchman leaves the Budapest Worlds with two charms, after the silver in the 100 meter freestyle, gleaned on Wednesday.
