This week on the show Car guideour columnists Antoine Joubert and Gabriel Gélinas try out the Nissan Rogue.
For 2022, Nissan has added a new engine to its catalog, a turbocharged three-cylinder engine that aims to reduce gas mileage and improve performance. Is it a successful mandate?
“What’s special is that we took an existing engine from Nissan and also from Infiniti – the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo with variable compression. We simply removed a cylinder,” explains Gabriel.
More performance?
The new mill produces 201 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. Everything is paired with all-wheel drive and a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
“I wonder why Nissan, here in North America, replaced an engine that was doing a good job,” Antoine asks, referring to the 2.5-litre four-cylinder. He maintains that even if the three-cylinder has 20 more horsepower, the performance is not felt.
Another disappointment, the fuel consumption is even greater. During their test, our journalists obtained a rating of 8.8 L/100 km, which is much higher than the 7.7 L/100 km announced by the manufacturer.
Enhanced comfort
But it’s not all negative. Antoine and Gabriel emphasize the high comfort of the seats as well as the quality of assembly which has been improved compared to the older generation.
“It’s very well built, the behavior is very interesting [et] it’s more spacious than ever. We worked on the equipment/price ratio at Nissan”, notes Antoine. Briefly, it is all the same a convincing product, mention the columnists.
