The firefighters intervened more than 600 times after the violent storms which affected 36 towns in the north-west of the Dordogne department on the night of Monday June 21 to 22. At midday, there were no injuries, but the material damage was significant, particularly in Ribérac, Vanxains, La Roche-Chalais but also in Saint-Aulaye, around Saint-Martin de Ribérac and Montagrier.
Roofs were torn off by the wind, windows shattered by hail the size of golf balls. Electric cables and trees fell to the ground. In Vanxains, liters of mud poured into the streets.
150 interventions still in progress
A total of 100 firefighters, 2 mobile ladders and 45 machines are mobilized. 150 interventions are still in progressin particular to cover the roofs, while new storms are expected this evening.
By midday the roads are mostly clear, but 8,000 homes are still without electricity according to Enedis.
