On this World Refugee Day and against the backdrop of the crisis in Ukraine, the number of forcibly displaced people in the world continues to increase.

the High Commission United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has published its annual report on forced displacement around the world. According to the UN program, nearly 89.3 million people were displaced worldwide in 2021. A figure up 8% compared to 2020 and which has doubled in 10 years according to the UNHCR. Among them, nearly 27.1 million refugees had to leave their country while 53.2 million people were internally displaced within their own country.

The reasons for these forced displacements are mainly wars and persecutions, but also economic crises and the climate. We thus find among the countries having received the most refugees Turkey, Pakistan and Uganda, but also Colombia.

For 2022, the UNHCR puts forward the figure of 6.8 million refugees who left Ukraine between February 24 and May 25, 2022. Unheard of since the Second World War.
