A transfer that does not pass. Polish international defender Maciej Rybus has been excluded from the national team for the 2022 World Cup, the Polish Football Federation announced on Monday (June 20). L32-year-old left-backwho has just signed with Spartak Moscow after five seasons at Lokomotiv Moscow, is ccriticized for deciding to stay in the Russian league despite the invasion of Ukraine.
National team coach Czeslaw Michniewicz told him “that due to his club situation, he would not call him up for the selection training camp in September and would not take him into account when composing the squad for the World Cup in Qatar“, announced the federation in a brief press release.
Maciej Rybus, who has 66 caps, is one of the most experienced defenders in the Polish team. He also walked the lawns of Ligue 1 during his time at Olympique Lyonnais between 2016 and 2017.

Following the military invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army on February 24, international players playing in Russia chose to leave the championship. His compatriot, Grzegorz Krychowiak had notably used FIFA regulations allowing players from the Russian leagues to unilaterally suspend their contract, to join AEK Athens.
