The evolution of these figures should be put into perspective with the data for 2019, due to the health crisis in 2020 and 2021, warns the Paris police headquarters which disseminates them.

Delinquency in Paris is on the rise over the first three months of 2022, but its level is still lower than that of 2019, according to a report from the Paris police headquarters published on Monday June 20. The year 2019 is considered as the reference year, because the Covid-19 pandemic and the various health restrictions have made “atypical” the indicators for 2020 and 2021.
Thus, the “acts of intentional attacks on physical integrity” are up by 17.9% between the start of 2021 and the start of 2022. A level that remains 7.4% lower than that of 2019, which represents “877 fewer victims in 2022 than in 2019”.
Domestic violence on the rise
The same is true for crimes against property (pickpocketing, theft from a trailer), which constitute “the most important part of Parisian crime” and are “linked to the high attendance of the capital”, notes the police headquarters. They are up by 24.5% between the start of 2021 and the start of 2022, but still lower than 2019 (-21.1% of facts observed). Only burglaries have returned to a level comparable to that of before the health crisis.
On the other hand, domestic violence and sexual violence increase respectively by 45% and 25.2% between 2019 and 2022, and by 27.6% and 39.4% between 2021 and 2022. “is partly explained by the freedom of speech of the victims, which results in an increase in the complaints filed”estimates the police headquarters.
