Twenty-five years after taking his first steps on television, Jean-Marc Parent is back with four specials presented on TVA.
For the premiere of “JMP”, this Sunday, at 9 pm – after “Revolution” -, the 59-year-old comedian notably makes jokes about a certain COVID-19 pandemic that has shaken the world. Starting with him, because he is afraid of getting sick and admits to being a “hypochondriac”. He also said in the one-hour show that he ordered 12 vaccines to be sure he was well protected. It talks about wearing a mask and distance learning, among other things.
He also tells where he got the idea of inviting viewers to “flash” the lights at the time of “The JMP Hour” to the defunct TQS network. In another episode, he will also mention the number of the disabled person who revealed it in 1988.
The filming of “JMP” took place last August at the Armory in Quebec. Over three hours of anecdotes and stories were boxed during each of the five shows captured, with 15 cameras so you didn’t miss a thing. This means that it took a lot of editing to offer four specials of 60 minutes each.
Conditions
Jean-Marc Parent, who prefers to perform on the stage, has agreed on certain conditions to return to the small screen for these special programs produced by ComédiHa !, in collaboration with Quebecor Content, the first being that his “gang” of the last 25 years is gathered for the occasion. He also wanted the whole thing to be shot in 10 well-condensed days. He also wanted to be free to talk about anything and everything, as he likes to do since his beginnings.
“It was really ‘fun’, it was like a conventum, we were all feverish, excited. We made appointments to listen to music all afternoon before rehearsals and shoots, as in the past. […] We took steps, we visited, ”Jean-Marc Parent told the QMI Agency.
In the first show, it is the Jean-Marc Parent that we know who takes the stage by storm, improvising with the public, with the cameras as well as with his many accomplices in the room.
“We see the same guy, but who tells different stories. I don’t do sketches, no characters, it’s the same Jean-Marc, ”said the comedian.
Even if he doesn’t have musicians with him like in the good old days, the music is still very present, and very loud for the people who were at the Armory. Among them, a certain Patrick Normand, who was there without Jean-Marc Parent knowing it, as we will see this Sunday. The two men chatted and Patrick even pushed the note.
Jean-Marc Parent will be back on the road with performances of his 11th solo show, “Utopia”, from May 2022.
