The 193 Gallery showcases the richness and diversity of the young Cameroonian scene.
Until July 31, 2022, the 193 Gallery in Paris offers with the exhibition dicokam to discover the new Cameroonian scene through the works of eight contemporary artists, all in their thirties.
“All pupils or proteges of Barthélémy Toguo, Hervé Youmbi or Jean David Nkot, these eight contemporary artists have all passed through Doual’art and/or Bandjoun Station, institutions considered as a true pillar of Cameroonian art. This new generation knows how to stand out by questioning both the traditions of the country and the urban realities. Through their creativity, these artists reinterpret themes such as social status, loneliness, the environment or even politics. The fruit of their work thus reflects the new concerns facing Cameroon.“, explains curator Mary-Lou Ngwe-Secke.
To complete this exhibition, two works will soon see the light of day: the first volume will be devoted to the eight artists in the exhibition and the second will cover a broader spectrum dedicated to the Cameroonian contemporary scene.
