In Spain, more than 25,000 hectares have burned in recent days in several parts of the country due to extreme heat and drought. The most important fire took place near the Portuguese border, where the firefighters are still in the process of intervention.
A giant fire, flames fanned by violent winds and in a few days 25,000 ha burned in the Sierra de la Culebrain Spain. Favored by scorching temperatures, several fires have ravaged a mountain range in northwestern Spain, on the border with Portugal. Fourteen villages and more than a thousand people had to be evacuated. Some found refuge in a gymnasium.
In Catalonia, 1,700 ha went up in smoke. For several days, it has been over 40°C in the region. Firefighters lit counterfires to stop the advancing flames. More than 500 firefighters are mobilized and in front of the huge blaze, some were overwhelmed. In this province, forty forest fires broke out at the same time. Firefighters hope to overcome the most important, located at Baldomarbefore Sunday evening, June 19.
