Can Ukraine join the European Union?

The three main leaders of the European institutions have all already been to kyiv (Ukraine). Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made the trip twice. Ukraine then obtained official status as an EU candidate country.

But this is the start of a long marathon in the future for Kyiv. The negotiations will cover 35 technical and complex chapters, such as free movement, public procurement, agriculture and justice. In the meantime, the European Commission should give a positive opinion on this status of candidate country on Friday 17 June. In a week, the 27 European leaders will debate. The consensus is not yet achieved between the EU and Ukraine.
