The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) is looking for two suspects in an armed assault and robbery related to a hate crime that occurred in Westmount at the beginning of May.

The attack took place on May 5 at around 1:15 p.m. at the corner of Sainte-Catherine Ouest and Wood streets, after the Israel Rally downtown. “Given the likelihood that the two suspects are minors, the SPVM is exceptionally broadcasting, until June 21, 2022, images and videos captured by cell phone that can help identify them,” the police force said in a press release.
The victim is a man in his fifties who was holding an Israeli flag when he was “arrested by two suspects who ordered him to hand it over to them,” reports the SPVM. “Faced with the victim’s refusal, the suspects grab the object and rush at the man; an altercation ensues. One of the suspects strikes the victim’s head with a branch. A citizen wanting to help him was also hit several times in the face. »
The suspects are described as young men around 18 years old, both about 5ft 8in (about 1m73) tall. One of them, who has dark skin and black curly hair, was “wearing a black jacket, a white sweater, black Puma sweatpants and black shoes” at the time of the altercation. The other was “all dressed in black, he wore a black intervention mask and blue shoes”, specifies the SPVM. They fled on Wood Street in a blue Infiniti QX56 vehicle.
