Friday, June 17 in the morning, we learned that Russia had stopped its gas deliveries to France. Moscow turned off the tap two days ago. What consequence can this have for our country?
For cooking or heating, will there be enough gas in France for the winter? The question does indeed arise on Friday, June 17. For two days, one of the supply taps has been cut off. France no longer receives any Russian gas from a gas pipeline that passes through Germany. Russia, which usually supplies 17% of French gas, has followed through on its threats. “Our product, our rules. We don’t play by rules we didn’t make”asserts Alexei Miller, CEO of Gazprom.
The French network manager GRTGaz wants to be reassuring. In recent weeks, they have filled in as much inventory as possible, at a higher level than usual. “No difficulty is expected during the summer to meet the needs of French consumers”says the company. For winter, France only has a few months left to import gas others countries like Spain or the United States, according to Christopher DembikDirector of Macroeconomic Research at Saxo bank. Investments are therefore to be planned for the years to come.
