CN announced Wednesday evening that it had received 72 hours’ strike notice from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), which represents about 750 of its workers in Canada.
In its press release, CN specifies that these employees intend to go on strike on June 18 at 11 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.
CN maintains that it nevertheless negotiated in good faith with the union.
“The Company has also offered to settle the various issues, which primarily relate to wages and benefits, through binding arbitration. CN remains optimistic about the chances of reaching an agreement without a strike,” the statement said.
If there is no agreement by Saturday, the Canadian National ensures that it would be able to ensure “the continuation of the usual activities in complete safety, as long as necessary”.
