The lawyers ofAlexei Navalny announced on Tuesday that they had learned of his transfer to another establishment without knowing which one. This had aroused the concern of his relatives and supporters. This prison, which is near the town of Vladimir, has been the subject of numerous journalistic investigations on accusations of ill-treatment inflicted on prisoners. A spokeswoman for Alexei Navalny, Kira Iarmych, said in May that this prison was the“one of the scariest in Russia”claiming that “detainees are tortured and killed there”.

Alexei Navalny, 46, was previously imprisoned in the colony of Pokrov, 100 km from Moscow, already considered one of the toughest in Russia. This prison move is due to the fact that a prison sentence pronounced in March against Alexei Navalny in one of the multiple court cases against him came into force, his lawyer Olga Mikhaïlova explained on Tuesday.
