The Evry prosecution requested the maximum sentence on Tuesday for manslaughter and involuntary injury against the SNCF in the trial of the Brétigny rail disaster. The prosecution, on the other hand, requested the release of SNCF Réseauwhich succeeded Réseau ferré de France, the track manager which was also implicated in this trial.
The prosecutor also requested the release for the former railway worker who also appeared before the criminal court of Evry. This is the executive who carried out the last lane monitoring tour.
The prosecutor retains the legal recidivism
The prosecution therefore requested a fine of 450,000 euros, the maximum sentence due to legal recidivism that prosecutor Rodolphe Juy-Birmann asked the court to retain. SNCF, criminal heiress of SNCF Infra in charge of track maintenance at the time of the events in July 2013, “created the context at the origin of the accident” by a “failure in maintenance chain”according to the prosecutor who assumes that such a conviction “will bring reproach and discredit” on public enterprise.
The national company SNCF, SNCF Réseau and this executive have been appearing since April 25 before the criminal court of Evry in Essonne. The trial must establish responsibilities after the death of seven people in the derailment of a train at Brétigny-sur-Orge station on July 12, 2013.
The trial continues this Thursday with the pleadings of the defense of the former railway worker and SNCF Réseau then, on Friday, the pleadings of the SNCF. The judgment of the court will then be reserved.
