The Mucem basin in Marseille will be transformed into a swimming pool in a year

The “no swimming” sign will therefore disappear at the foot of the Mucem in Marseille. If the schedule is well kept, in a year you can dive in the sea in this place, the famous museum basin will be transformed into a natural swimming pool. The deputy to the city in charge of the coast Hervé Menchon confirms this Wednesday on France Bleu Provence.

It is a question of giving on this part of the coast to the city where we are deprived of bathing, finally, of giving again, to the families, to the minots of Marseilles an access to the sea

Transforming this space into a natural swimming pool is a long-standing wish of the “Libres Nageurs” of Marseille, who on several occasions have organized “wild” swimming in this space to show that it is impossible to swim there, it was the case on March 1, 2021. Hervé Menchon who nevertheless specifies that the basin will be transformed into a swimming pool: “If the metropolis, which had given rather positive signs to our proposal, agrees to work with the city on this project, since they are responsible for the ports.”

The project is of high quality, it has no real opposition, in any case health or regulatory arguments impossible to overcome – Hervé Menchon
