The next generation in “Duty” training

For several weeks, the editorial staff of the To have to have returned to their newsroom in hybrid working mode, after two years of completely outsourced media production. To this buzzing fauna that we are delighted to find are added this summer eight trainees who have come to learn about the inner workings of a newsroom.

It is thanks to the collaboration of our partners that we can offer a paid internship to these eight apprentice journalists: the internships are supported by the Friends of the To have to, Concordia University, the Institute for Data Valorization (IVADO) and a Mitacs research grant. The internships allow an initiation to the life of the editorial staff, to the profession of journalist, to the different formats and production methods of the To have to. The interns will work this summer under the supervision of journalists Jessica Nadeau and Marco Fortier, as well as executives Paul Cauchon and Valérie Duhaime.

We present them to you: on the side of the IVADO internships, focused on data journalism, it is aboutEve Menard and of Baptist Pauletto. Ève is studying sociology at the University of Montreal, and Baptiste is completing a master’s degree in computer engineering at Polytechnique.

From Concordia University, Nikoo Pajoom is enrolled in the bachelor’s degree in political science and philosophy, having arrived in Quebec nine months ago from Iran. His colleague Olivier du Ruisseau is doing a double major in journalism and history of art and cinema.

From the University of Montreal, Dardia Garcelle Joseph is completing a bachelor’s degree in law and has been a law student at Lavery Avocats since 2019. Also from UdeM, Paul Fontaine became interested in science journalism after a solid education in physics and mathematics. From Laval University, Maxance Cloutier has a baccalaureate in journalism and is doing a master’s degree in international journalism.

Finally, Simon Gionet is an intern in our digital lab, where he will explore different ways of applying the same subject to new formats, particularly in video and data visualization. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University and is completing a DESS in Journalism from the University of Montreal. Have a good summer with us!
