Doctor Boileau calls for “some caution” regarding COVID-19

The acting national director of public health of Quebec invites the population to “a certain vigilance” concerning COVID-19 which “is not behind us” and which “is still being transmitted”.

On the sidelines of a press briefing on monkeypox on Tuesday in Montreal, Dr. Luc Boileau indicated that public health was seeing an increase in cases and “variations that are setting in”.

He was careful to specify that this was not a new wave, however “it is important to emphasize that COVID is still there and that there is still transmission” and “that it is not has not disappeared”.

Doctor Boileau suggests to those who believe that they are at risk “to resume protection, such as the mask in particular, to maintain distance and to wash their hands well”.

Since May 14, it is no longer compulsory to wear the mask in closed or partially covered public places and the mask will no longer be compulsory in public transport from Saturday.

The end of wearing a mask could explain the increase in cases observed in recent days, according to Luc Boileau.

Quebec reported on Tuesday seven new deaths attributed to COVID-19, as well as a decrease in hospitalizations.

There are currently 1,016 hospitalizations, down nine from Monday. Twenty-one people are in intensive care, one more than the day before.
