Depending on the scores of the first round of legislative elections, the parties receive money. Revenues that allow them to exist, to sustain democracy. How does it work ?

In the first round of the legislative elections, Sunday June 12, the Animalist Party scored the highest score in its history in this election: more than 255,000 votes. According to the law, he should therefore receive an endowment of 1.64 euros per ballot, or a total of 419,000 euros per year for five years. This is six times more than in 2017, very good news for the leader of the party. “This money will be used to structure the party, to continue to develop it”says Hélène Thouy, co-founder and co-president of the Animalist Party.

In total, each year, the parties share 66 million euros. They are distributed according to their scores in the first round of the legislative therefore, but also according to the number of deputies elected, approximately 37,000 euros for each. What, for example, to help the National Rally, heavily in debt. The party of Marine Le Pen, which hopes for around thirty parliamentarians, would then receive nearly one million euros more. Funding can also be reduced if parties do not respect gender parity.
