The news was feared by Bordeaux supporters, it finally fell on Tuesday, June 14. The Girondins of Bordeaux, sportingly relegated to Ligue 2 at the end of the season, were sanctioned by the DNCG, the French football policeman, with an administrative demotion to National 1. The club has announced its intention to appeal, and will therefore have to appear before a new hearing.

The LFP made this decision public after financial examination of the Girondin club, owned by businessman Gerard Lopez, by the National Directorate of Control and Management.

The club reacted quickly, taking note “with consternation” of the decision, and announced its intention to “Of course” call. “This brutal decision – after a hearing of nearly two hours which took place in good conditions – deprives the club of continuing to implement the strategy of cleaning up its financial situation”deplore the Girondins.

Bordeaux is plagued by recurring financial difficulties and has not been able to reassure the DNCG, the financial watchdog of the French League. These setbacks are added to a catastrophic sports season, ending in last place in Ligue 1, with an unprecedented relegation since 1991-92.

The League also announced on Tuesday that the DNCG had only taken “no measurement” against Losc. The green light has also been given for Amiens, Caen and Saint-Etienne in Ligue 2, as well as for Red Star in National 1. On the other hand, FC Annecy (L2) is concerned by a “management of payroll and transfer allowances”according to the League.
