Cyprus wants to limit the influx of migrants. An emergency meeting around the president was held to put in place measures to fight illegal immigration. Cyprus will suspend asylum requests from migrants to curb the increase in illegal entries on its soil that it blames on Turkey. Since January, 11,000 migrants have arrived in Cyprus, twice as many as in 2020.
In Germany, the CDU is looking for a new representative. The Christian Democratic Party is preparing to appoint a successor. Among the candidates, Norbert Röttgen, said he wanted to change the image of the party: “My candidacy for the presidency of the CDU is based on a deep conviction. Going back or continuing is not an option.”
In Italy, the Pope calls to defend the most deprived on the occasion of the World Day of the Poor. In front of several hundred faithful, he asked for more equality between peoples and individuals.
