(Toronto) Rory McIlroy successfully defended his Canadian Open title on Sunday with a 62 (-8) card to beat Justin Thomas and Tony Finau after a dramatic end.

This is the first time McIlroy has managed to defend a career title. He won the 2019 edition, played on the course of the Hamilton Golf & Country Club. However, the tournament has been canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19.
Thomas had a good battle on the course at St. George’s Golf & Country Club, which ended on the 17e pennant. McIlroy and Thomas then shared the lead, but Thomas collapsed with two straight bogeys while McIlroy chained birdies.
McIlroy finished the tournament in 261 strokes (-19) and prevailed over Finau by two strokes.
For his part, Justin Rose equaled the tournament and field record by delivering a card of 60 (- 10) – despite 3 bogeys – and finished tied with Sam Burns (65) at – 14.
The crowds were spectacular, as thousands gathered at the 18e hole to see the trio of McIlroy, Thomas and Finau wrap up the day.
This is McIlroy’s second victory this season. He triumphed at the CJ Cup in Las Vegas last October. He got his hands on a 21e career title on the PGA Tour.
“It’s a day that I will remember for a very, very long time,” McIlroy said. Twenty-one victories on the circuit is one more than anyone. »
It was an arrow in the direction of Greg Norman, pilot of the Saudi circuit LIV. Norman called McIlroy “brainwashed by the PGA” at the washington post after McIlroy criticized the new circuit.
Corey Conners was the top Canadian in the tournament. He finished alone in sixth place at -12. He shot 62 (-8) in the final round.
