Thursday June 9, more than 40,000 new daily cases of Covid-19 were recorded in France. The virus does not seem to fear high temperatures.
After three months of uninterrupted decline, the number of Covid-19 cases is rebounding. More than 40,000 new daily cases were recorded on Thursday June 9, an increase of 58% in seven days. Some departments are more affected than others, such as Martinique. In one week, 2,364 hospitalizations for Covid-19 were listed throughout France, a slight increase of 1.3%, with no consequences for hospitals for the moment.
But health professionals are worried about the coming weeks. “We have to watch because the hospital is under tension. We have a flagrant lack of staff”, warns Karine Lacombe, infectious disease specialist. According to health authorities, the subvariants of Omicron, BA4 and BA5, are less dangerous. But they still represent a risk for immunocompromised and non-vaccinated people. Nevertheless, the figures remain lower than during previous peaks.
