Saturday, June 11, the lifeguard season begins. In Lège-Cap-Ferret, in Gironde, swimming is not recommended due to high waves.

On the beach of Grand Crohot, in Gironde, there are already many tourists. However, the prefecture of Nouvelle-Aquitaine has advised against swimming for the weekend of Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 June, due to strong swells and powerful currents. Those who throw themselves into the water do so with extreme prudencence. Apprentice surfers are made aware of the waves, their height. “We know that there are substantial waves, so just the noise we can say ‘wow, it’s dangerous'”explains Xavier Bernard, manager of the Presqu’île surf club.

Lifeguard swimmers begin their season on Saturday, June 11. They prepare the beach, install equipment and test swimming areas. “We want to test the currents, since it’s our first day and find out where it will be best to put the bathing area”, explains Jean-Baptiste Andribet, head of the Grand Crohot beach post (Lège Cap-Ferret). In May 2022, two people drowned in this municipality.
