The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) is deploying a mobile command post on Saturday in LaSalle, Montreal, to obtain information on two assaults that took place in the last few days.
Posted at 5:23 p.m.
The command post will be installed mainly on Raymond Street, north of Galarneau Street and near Paul-Séguin Park, between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Saturday. “The investigators invite anyone who has witnessed these attacks to come and meet them on site,” reads a press release from the SPVM.
Witnesses can also dial 911 or communicate anonymously and confidentially with Info-Crime Montreal at 514 393-1133 or online.
The events occurred on May 31 and June 4 in the area. The first victim “came out of a training center and was waiting for the bus on Bishop-Power Boulevard near George Street in LaSalle” around 1:15 a.m., the police said. “The suspect approached her to ask her a question and then stabbed her in the upper body” before fleeing at the back of Place LaSalle to the west.
The second attack took place around 9:30 p.m. while the victim was walking on Raymond Street near Paul-Séguin Park “when she felt, behind her, a person come running and then hit her violently on the back. ‘back of the neck’ before fleeing through the park. Footage from nearby surveillance cameras shows the suspect followed the victim for approximately 300m.
“Several elements similar to the two assaults make it possible to link them”, according to the SPVM, and a composite portrait of the suspect was made. The latter is said to be a black man aged 18 to 25, about 1.75 m (5 ft 9 in) tall and weighing between 63 and 72 kg (between 140 and 160 lb).
