It was at the Domaine de Péré in Prissé La Charrière (79), where a plant and garden festival is held twice a year, that Alexandre De Haldat was able to begin to observe plants and the cycles of nature. Among the remarkable trees listed there, he looked up at the top (40 meters!) of the two plane trees that adorn the entrance.
But how does a plant grow?
No, it does not eat the earth but unlike us humans who can move around to get our food, it must manage to find in the ground and transform it, elements that are essential to it.
In the root system that escapes our eyes, survival is at stake. The plant will produce its own sugars itself, from what it finds in its environment.
Water, carbon dioxide and energy are essential to the life of the plant.
- The roots absorb the water present in the soil, this water contains mineral salts, and this water is transported to the leaves,
- the aerial part will absorb carbon dioxide, remember it’s the famous CO2,
- the plant will now capture energy from sunlight and turn water and CO2 into sugar.
This sugar will allow the growth of the plant.
Alexandre De Haldat is present throughout the weekend of June 11 and 12, 2022 at the Plant and Garden Festival at Prissé La Charrière to answer your questions.
