Here we go again. Faced with the resurgence of the Covid-19 epidemic on the island, the white plan was again activated by the Martinique University Hospital, a month after being lifted. “The white plan and the related provisions are reactivated as of today”wrote Thursday, June 9 the direction of the CHU of Martinique in an internal note that was able to consult the AFP. “The influx of patients to the emergency room”, “the rise of the Covid epidemic” and “operating difficulties” justify the reinstatement of this particular mobilization and organization device, according to the CHUM.

The Covid-19 epidemic has resumed an upward curve in Martinique. During the week of May 30 to June 5, 7,924 new cases were recorded. By way of comparison, 2,022 new positive cases of Covid-19 had been recorded during the week of April 25 to May 1, a few days before the lifting of the white plan. The white plan remained in effect from July 12, 2021 to May 4, 2022 on the island.

During the first week of June, 35 patients suffering from Covid-19 were hospitalized at the CHUM, including 4 in critical care/resuscitation. In this island where only 45.4% of the population aged 12 and over has received a complete vaccination schedule, 943 deaths, reported by the Martinique University Hospital, have been deplored since the start of the epidemic.
