On Instagram, the “laviondebernard” account uses “flight tracking” to analyze the private jet movements of the CEO of the LVMH group, Bernard Arnault. In one month, he alone would have emitted 176 tons of CO2, or more than 17 years of carbon footprint of an average Frenchman.
The Instagram account “laviondebernard” follows all the private jet trips of the CEO of the LVMH group. Through each publication, it is possible to see the time spent in the air but also the number of tons of CO2 emitted.
“We want to make climate injustice invisible. The main culprits of global warming are also those who suffer the least from it. About 90% of the world’s population has never flown.”
To analyze this data, the creators of the account use a technique called “flight tracking”, aimed at showing the carbon footprints linked to the movements of billionaires and politicians.
“It points to the considerable impact that these modes of travel can have on climate change. A private jet for a passenger in fact, it will have an impact 10 to 20 times higher than an airliner”, explains Charlène Fleury, spokesperson for Alternatiba.
