After their arrest, the suspects, aged 23 to 25, were released on several conditions.

The investigation into them began last September after the filing of several complaints.

According to the police, a suspect contacted an elder pretending to be his grandson and told him that he was in trouble with the authorities. He pretended to need money to be released from prison.

During the telephone conversation, a second suspect impersonating a police officer or a lawyer indicated to the victim the procedure to follow so that she could go and withdraw some money and deposit it in an envelope which she would give to a person who had to appear. At her place.

A search of a residence used as a call center by the suspects led to the seizure of 18 cell phones, more than $13,000 in Canadian currency as well as four vehicles.

Police say that since the victims withdrew money voluntarily, they may not be reimbursed by financial institutions.
