The City of Montreal will rely on its Maisons de la culture to bring the arts to life in the boroughs of the metropolis. It is now proposing a development plan aimed at making cultural life more accessible, including the construction and renovation of establishments.

The City thus wishes to “increase the visibility and accessibility of the Maisons de la culture in order to make them the main gateway to the arts and culture in all the neighborhoods of Montreal”. This vision is part of the Montréal 2030 strategic plan for “a more resilient, green and inclusive city”.
New cultural centers will thus be built, while a dozen others, located in 10 boroughs, will be renovated.
“By investing in the development and upgrading of the Houses, we are working to reach new audiences, from all walks of life, from all walks of life and from all cultures, by making sustained efforts to reach populations far from the arts and of culture,” said Ericka Alneus, Head of Culture and Heritage at the Executive Committee.
The new vision of the City of Montreal for its Maisons de la culture revolves around several pillars, namely accessibility and proximity, inclusion and equity, connection and communities, as well as excellence and innovation.
In particular, this plan expresses the wish to represent Montreal’s diversity in the work teams, to offer partnerships with artistic, school and community organizations, to facilitate the reception of artists and the public with disabilities, to reduce the environmental consequences of activities or to encourage innovation.
No budget has yet been announced to implement this plan.
