Work disrupts train traffic this weekend in Brittany

No train is running this weekend in Nord-Finistère. From this Thursday 2 p.m. and until Sunday 2 p.m., coaches carry passengers between Morlaix and Brest. Because major work is being carried out at Landerneau station to renew 2 kilometers of track. The work, which began at the beginning of September, takes place mainly at night. But to change the switches, it was necessary to be able to interrupt the traffic for three consecutive days.

The timing was of course not chosen at random, at the heart of a long weekend, to disrupt operations as little as possible. In 72 hours, eight switches of the Landerneau station – about thirty years old – must be replaced. The operations will mobilize 170 people until Sunday.

4 hours to go from Brest to Rennes

For travelers, the weekend promises to be tricky. All TGVs arrive or depart from Morlaix. And all TER BreizhGo will be replaced by coaches on the Quimper-Brest, Brest-Morlaix, Brest-Landerneau and Brest-Lannion lines.

But this is not the only site of the weekend. In Rennes, a level crossing must be removed, which has the consequence of stopping traffic between Rennes and Saint-Brieuc on Friday and Saturday. There too, coaches transport travelers. Travelers wishing to go from Brest to Rennes this Saturday must take a bus to Morlaix, then a train to Saint-Brieuc and finally another bus to reach the Breton capital. Or at least four hours, twice the usual journey time.

The information has passed, says Denis Déléris, deputy director of SNCF Réseau in Brittany: “TER regulars have been informed since the end of August, when they received the timetables, and then in the last two weeks, we have reinforced this information with postings at the station and our subscribers have also received e-mails. And then our railway workers will be in the stations and in the trains, to inform them. “
