The body of a woman found in the Saint-Charles river in Quebec

The body of a second person was recovered from the Saint-Charles River on Thursday afternoon, 11 days after two students sank in the river.

The body of a woman was found in the river around 1:10 p.m., near rue Haut Bord, about 2 km east of the cycle bridge where the tragedy took place.

In the evening, we could not yet confirm whether it is the missing student, Christelle Marielle Kouass. The body was turned over to the coroner for formal identification.

After ending its active search on the river almost a week ago, the Quebec police decided on Thursday to mobilize its nautical unit again because of a “window of opportunity”.

Indeed, the water elevation of the river, which was on the rise due to precipitation and operations at the dam of the river further north, suggested favorable nautical conditions.

On May 29, Mr.me Kouass was swept away by the current along with Kevin Timneu Fezeau, who had been located dead in the first days of the search.

The two victims, aged in their twenties, were completing their studies for a master’s degree in business administration at the Faculty of Administrative Sciences at Laval University.
