Johnny Depp will release an album with Jeff Beck

Barely a week after the judgment was rendered in the trial against his ex-wife, Johnny Depp announces that he will release an album with guitarist Jeff Beck on July 15.

The album, soberly titled 18, will feature 13 songs, the majority of which will be covers of hits by artists like the Beach Boys, John Lennon and Marvin Gaye. Two of them will nevertheless be compositions by Johnny Depp. The music video for a first song – one of those composed by the actor – was made public on Beck’s Youtube channel on Thursday and has already accumulated more than 60,000 views. In This is a Song for Miss Hedy Lamarr, Depp sings and plays the guitar, accompanied by several musicians, including Jeff Beck. The song is a tribute to Austrian actress and inventor Hedy Lamarr, who died in 2000.

To promote the launch of the album, tickets have been put on sale for a European tour which will begin on June 19 in Helsinki and conclude on July 25 in Paris. Depp will attend as a special guest. The title of the album was chosen in reference to the complicity of the two artists.

“When Johnny and I started playing together, it really ignited our youthful and creative spirit. We were making jokes about how we felt like we were 18 again, so that also became the title of the album,” Jeff Beck said in a statement posted on his website. According to the statement, the duo have been working on the album since 2019.

This announcement comes just over a week after the verdict of the trial between the comedian and his ex-wife Amber Heard fell. He was suing her for defamation and she responded by suing him as well, in addition to accusing him of having sexually assaulted her. Several sordid details of their life as a couple have been made public in this judicial saga which is widely followed and broadcast live by specialized channels.

The jury ultimately found the two comedians liable for defamation. Amber Heard was ordered to pay $ 15 million to her ex-spouse while he will have to pay him two million.
