France is on the threshold of the fifth wave. In Germany, the epidemic is racing. The bar of 50,000 daily contaminations has been crossed.
It is a real outbreak of the epidemic that Germany did not expect. The country crossed for the first time the threshold of 50,000 new cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours. Faced with this sad record and the 40% increase in the number of hospitalizations, Olaf Scholz, Vice-Chancellor and Minister of Finance, wanted to speak: “We need to see the country come together. My last wish for the citizens who are not yet vaccinated, it is important to do it for your health.”.
The vaccination rate in Germany is 67%. A lower percentage than most of its neighboring countries such as Italy (72%), Denmark (76%) or Spain (80%). To stem the new wave, the authorities are establishing a new round of screw in the regions most affected by the epidemic. In Saxony, a German region, access to bars and restaurants is restricted to vaccinated people. “Unfortunately, this causes injustice”, testifies a resident of the region.
